Prior Learning Lectures
Prior Learning Lectures : Prior to attending the first set of practical dates, coaches are provided with access to six prior learning lectures exploring strength training, plyometric training, Olympic weightlifting, speed and agility and youth athletic development. Each of these learners are approx 30 mins in length.
Course Delivery
Weekend One : This weekend will focus on foundational movement and Long term athletic development (LTAD), the training methodology which underpins youth athletic development and physical literacy including speed and agility, plyometrics, bilateral and unilateral squat squat progressions, hinge patterns, vertical / horizontal push and pull patterns, lumbopelvic control, performance specific RAMP warm ups and the fundamental principles of athletic performance training.
Weekend Two : This weekend will focus on strength training, progressing the previously explored LTAD and physical literacy movement patterns to their loaded equivalents, including loaded bilateral squats (front / back / overhead squats) hinge patterns (deadlift variations and pulls) vertical and horizontal pushes (push presses, overhead presses, powerlifting bench press (vertical and horizontal pulls (Pendley rows, bentover rows) explosive rotational ballistic training (med ball throw variations) and advanced transfer of training effect strength training methodology.
Weekend Three : This final weekend will firstly include the required foundational movement and strength-based training summative practical assessments, followed by our one-day Olympic weightlifting workshop, introducing practitioners to the Olympic lifts, their performance training benefits and their applications within S&C. Coaches are introduced to the snatch, clean and jerk classic lifts and their derivatives (e.g. hang and power variations, etc.) using a reverse engineering coaching process, with the final aim being that coaches understand the key principles of each lift, how to implement the lifts within performance programming and how to develop their own Olympic weightlifting competency.

This includes the completion of an athlete analysis, sport analysis (biomechanical, physiological and injury analysis), performance testing battery, periodised annual macro-cycle, a detailed 12 week meso-cycle and athlete evaluation.
Viva Presentation Assessment : Beyond the completion of this case study, coaches are required to prepare a 10 min presentation that outlines their case study, provides justification on their programming decisions and details their reflections from the performance case study process.
