This qualification is designed to provide learners with an understanding of the legal and professional requirements of a group cycling instructor. Learners are provided with an understanding of the key concepts of studio cycling and how technology can be used in studio cycling sessions. Learners are also provided with the knowledge and skills to be able to plan, prepare and deliver safe and effective group studio cycling sessions.

Canditates will learn

This qualification is to train learners, who already have knowledge and skills in fitness instruction, to a professionally competent level to plan and deliver safe and effective group cycling sessions and to broaden the skills of fitness instructors to include instructing studio cycling sessions.

Assessment

  • Completion of worksheets
  • Completion of session plan
  • Summative observed group cycling session
  • Completion of session self-evaluation

Entry Requirements

  • A suitable Level 2 Fitness Instructing qualification
  • Some Experience of studio cycling is preferable
  • As the course requires some physical exertion with individual participation essential, a degree of physical fitness is necessary
  • Learners should have basic skills in communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing).

Progression Routes

  • Level 3 Qualifications in Personal Training for learners who wish to further their knowledge and skills to become a personal trainer.
  • Learners may also progress on to qualifications in related sectors such as Sports Massage and  Sports Massage Soft Tissue Therapy where they will learn the skills and knowledge to practice Sports Massage alongside fitness instructing in a health club environment.

Certification & CIMSPA

On completion candidates will be awarded with an Active IQ Level 2 Award in Instructing Studio Cycling e-certificate. Active IQ are no longer offering hard copy certificates. The Active IQ Level 2 Award in Instructing Studio Cycling holds 10 CIMSPA CPD points.
