Home Study
Once the candidate completes the application process, they will get access to resources to help them prepare for the course and their assessments.
Resources:
Manual– Candidates will receive a Level 3 Award in Nutrition for Exercise and Health manual when booking and be asked to read through specific sections prior to the delivery of the course. The manual has end of section questions after each section, this helps the candidate check what knowledge they have retained and areas they may need to focus on.
Course work required before the course commences – There are worksheets that are required to be completed before the course starts. Candidates will receive guidance on this when booking.
Online Delivery
During the qualification learners will cover the following:
- How to access credible information about nutrition for exercise and health.
- The nutrients required to maintain health.
- How nutrients from food are used to fuel and aid recovery from physical activity.
- How to estimate daily energy and nutrient requirements for clients with different goals.
- The risks of poor nutritional and lifestyle practices.
- Skills to analyse clients’ dietary habits and identification of areas for improvement.
Course Dates
This course is delivered Online, in a one-to-one basis or more, when booking, Fitness Training Scotland will contact the candidate to arrange a date for delivery that suits both tutor and candidate/s.
Assessment
Candidates are assessed throughout the course by written questions, an assignment, case study and an online theory assessment. The online theory assessment normally takes place two weeks after the course, and they consist of:
Online Theory paper – The theory assessment is completed Online, the assessment is multiple-choice, there are 40 questions and the allocated time to complete it is 1 hour and 30 mins. The pass mark is 28/40.
A date is set for each course.
- The principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health
Assignment:
- A case study working with a real client to enable the candidate to complete the following:
- An initial consultation.
- A food diary analysis.
- Educational Activity ie, Designing a newsletter, poster, leaflet, handout etc
- Worksheet questions – relating to Nutrition for sport and activity.
Certification
On completion candidates will be awarded with an Active IQ Level 3 Award in Nutrition for Health and Exercise e-certificate. Active IQ are no longer offering hard copy certificates.
