Once the candidate completes the application process, they will get access to resources to help them prepare for the course and their assessments.
Resources:
Manual– Candidates will receive a Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing manual when booking and be asked to read through specific sections prior to the delivery of the course. The manual has end of section questions after each section, this helps the candidate check what knowledge they have retained and areas they may need to focus on.
Videos–Candidates will get access to all practical videos of demonstrations and correct techniques for mobility exercises, cardiovascular machines, pre and post stretches, resistance machines, free weights, body weight exercises and functional exercises.
Mock theory paper- Candidates will receive a copy of an example theory paper to help with revision.
Course work required before the course commences – There are worksheets that are required to be completed before the course starts. Candidates will receive guidance on this when booking.
In Person Delivery
The practical element of the course is delivered over the five days where the following elements will be covered. (This may vary).
Day 1- Introduction, Day to Day structure and Assessment requirements Health and Safety of facility, Customer Care, Gathering Information, Consultation, SMART goals, and Fitness Testing.
Day 2- Completion of Consultation Observation, Introduction to CV machines, Mobility, Pulse Raiser, Stretches, Training Zones and Planning CV Training.
Day 3- CV Practice (Mobility, Pulse Raiser, Stretches and Main CV), Introduction and Practice of Resistance machines, Free weights, Functional and Body Weight exercises. Plan Group Programme.
Day 4- Practise 1-1 programme, Completion of Session evaluation questions, Cool Down and Post stretches, Cool Down and Post stretches
Day 5- All day – Group Induction practical Assessments
*Homework tasks will be given out after each day of delivery

2023 New delivery structure
This course will be delivered in a blended learning format; there will be two days online (Saturday and Sunday) and then three days face-to-face on the following weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) at a venue.

Assessment
Candidates are assessed throughout the course by written questions and practical continuous assessment. The final assessments normally take place two weeks after the last day of the course, and they consist of:
Online Theory paper – The theory assessment is completed Online, the assessment is multiple-choice, there are 50 questions and the allocated time to complete it is 1 hour and 45 mins. The pass mark is 35/50.
A date is set for each course.
- Principles of anatomy, physiology, and fitness
Practical Assessment:
Within the course delivery days candidates will be assessed working in a small group delivering a range of exercises.
A practical day will be set so that the candidate can complete their summative assessment. From a planned programme that is devised by the candidate on the course, the candidate will induct a client safely and effectively onto a range of equipment. Afterwards they will evaluate the session.
Entry Requirement
Some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights, is highly recommended.
The course requires physical exertion, and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary.
There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2.
Due to an element of the course being delivered via Zoom, we ask all learners have a good stable internet connection, and use of a PC, Laptop or Tablet with webcam.

This qualification provides progression to the following qualifications:
- Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training.
- Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral.
- Active IQ Level 3 Award in Supporting Pre and Postnatal Clients with Exercise and Nutrition.
- Active IQ Level 2 Award in Instructing Circuits.
- Active IQ Level 2 Award in Instructing Kettlebells.
- Active IQ Level 3 Award in Nutrition for Exercise and Health.
Certification
REPs CPD Points: 20 points
On completion candidates will be awarded with an Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing e-certificate. Active IQ are no longer offering hard copy certificates.
