The aim of the Active IQ L3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy is to provide the learners with a combination of knowledge and skills to be recognised as a qualified sports massage therapist. The qualification will provide learners with both the skills and knowledge to be able to apply sports massage therapy to a range of clients who have dysfunctional tissue who have no acute/post-acute injuries or underlying pathological conditions.

Applications for all courses close at 12 pm on the Monday before the course commences, unless the course is full prior to this.

Manual -Candidates will receive a Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage manual when booking and be asked to read through specific sections and utilise e-learning below to help with revision.

E-learning- is included in the cost of the course. It is designed to offer a different learning style from the manual as some of our candidates prefer visual and interactive learning as they struggle to study from the book alone. Within the e-learning resource it will cover:

  • Anatomy and physiology for sports massage
  • Principles of health and fitness
  • Understanding the principles of soft tissue dysfunction
  • Professional practice in sports massage
  • Sports massage treatments

Active IQ has advised that candidates would require a laptop or computer to access your e-Learning account as an iPad or mobile phone would not have the full capability to perform all the functions within the e-Learning.

Delivery

The Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage course is delivered via Blended learning, there is an element of home study, online face to face delivery and practical days. This course is delivered from 9 am – 5 pm either on a one-to-one basis (tutor and candidate), or as a small group. Where the course is delivered in a one-to-one basis the candidate will need to bring along a client to the practical days.

Home study prior to the course Completion of the E- Learning of all the below areas:

o    Anatomy and physiology for sports massage

o    Principles of health and fitness

o    Understanding the principles of soft tissue dysfunction

o    Professional practice in sports massage

o    Sports massage treatments

Read through the Anatomy and Physiology section of the course manual.

Online Delivery

Effects of Sports massage

Health and fitness, Healthy eating

Planes and axis of movement

Online Theory assessment The theory assessment will be completed through a browser-based e-assessment platform, such as Google Chrome. This assessment date can be arranged to suit the candidate.

• Theory paper – Level 3 Anatomy and physiology of sports massage.

• Multiple choice – 50 questions (pass mark 35/50)

• Allocated time – 105 minutes

  • Three Summative Observations:
  1. Maintenance massage in a clinical environment
  2. Pre-event massage in a non-clinical environment
  3. Post-event massage in a non-clinical environment

Entry Requirements

  • Learners must be 16+ years of age.
  • As an element of communication is involved throughout this course, learners should have good basic skills in communication.

Accreditation

  • This qualification is recognised by the Complementary & Natural Care Council (CNHC) and the General Council for Massage Therapies.
  • This qualification is supported by the Sports Massage Association (SMA) and the General Council for Massage Therapies (GCMT)
  • Once qualified, a Sports Massage Therapist may be self-employed or an employed therapist in professional sporting arenas, gyms, private clinics, existing businesses, and many other environments.

Progression Routes

On completion of the Diploma learners can progress on to the L4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy

eLearning is designed to offer a different learning style from the manual as some of our learners prefer visual and interactive learning as they struggle to study from the book alone.
The content within the eLearning is not different to the content within your manual, the eLearning, however, is laid out to break down each unit within the qualification and quiz yourself to let yourself know if you are getting the answers correct.
Active IQ has advised that you would require a laptop or computer to access your eLearning account as an iPad or mobile phone would not have the full capability to perform all the functions within the eLearning. Please be aware eLearning is not a mandatory learning tool.
