The Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructor and Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training package combines both qualifications you need to work successfully as a qualified Personal Trainer. Completing both courses will enable you to induct clients safely and effectively onto gym equipment and plan and devise programs using advanced training methods.
Due to an element of the course being delivered via Zoom, we ask all learners have a good stable internet connection, and use of a PC, Laptop or Tablet with webcam.

Please note if you hold a Level 3 Award in Nutrition for Exercise, and Health qualification, it can only be used towards the Nutrition theory and cannot exempt you from the case study.

Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing
Once the candidate completes the application process, they will get access to resources to help them prepare for the course and their assessments.
Resources:
Manual– Candidates will receive a Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing manual when booking and be asked to read through specific sections prior to the delivery of the course. The manual has end of section questions after each section, this helps the candidate check what knowledge they have retained and areas they may need to focus on.
Videos–Candidates will get access to all practical videos of demonstrations and correct techniques for mobility exercises, cardiovascular machines, pre and post stretches, resistance machines, free weights, body weight exercises and functional exercises.
Mock theory paper- Candidates will receive a copy of an example theory paper to help with revision.
Course work required before the course commences – There are worksheets that are required to be completed before the course starts. Candidates will receive guidance on this when booking.
Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training
Candidates will receive a Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training manual when booking and be asked to read through specific sections of the manual before attending the course. The sections of the manual include:

Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing
The practical element of the course is delivered over the five days where the following elements will be covered. (This may vary).
Day 1- Introduction, Day to Day structure and Assessment requirements Health and Safety of facility, Customer Care, Gathering Information, Consultation, SMART goals, and Fitness Testing.
Day 2- Completion of Consultation Observation, Introduction to CV machines, Mobility, Pulse Raiser, Stretches, Training Zones and Planning CV Training.
Day 3- CV Practice (Mobility, Pulse Raiser, Stretches and Main CV), Introduction and Practice of Resistance machines, Free weights, Functional and Body Weight exercises. Plan Group Programme.
Day 4- Practise 1-1 programme, Completion of Session evaluation questions, Cool Down and Post stretches, Cool Down and Post stretches
Day 5- All day – Group Induction practical Assessments
*Homework tasks will be given out after each day of delivery
Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training
This course is delivered over 6 days where the following elements are covered. (This may vary):

Assessments
Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing
Candidates are assessed throughout the course by written questions and practical continuous assessment. The final assessments normally take place two weeks after the last day of the course, and they consist of:
Online Theory paper – The theory assessment is completed Online, the assessment is multiple-choice, there are 50 questions and the allocated time to complete it is 1 hour and 45 mins. The pass mark is 35/50.

- Principles of anatomy, physiology, and fitness
Practical Assessment:
Within the course delivery days candidates will be assessed working in a small group delivering a range of exercises.
A practical day will be set so that the candidate can complete their summative assessment. From a planned programme that is devised by the candidate on the course, the candidate will induct a client safely and effectively onto a range of equipment. Afterwards they will evaluate the session.
Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training
Throughout the course candidates will be set Coursework/Projects, worksheets etc and will be marked by their course tutor.
Online Theory Assessments – There are two online theory assessments for this qualification, the assessments are multiple-choice, there are 40 questions for each assessment and the allocated time to complete it is 90 mins. The pass mark is 28/40.
A date is set for each course.

Practical Assessment:
There are a few modular practical observations for the following areas: Consultation, Personal Training session and Training Techniques, these will be assessed within the course delivery days.
A practical day will be set so that the candidate can complete their summative assessment. From a planned programme that is devised by the candidate on the course, the candidate will deliver a Personal Training session to an experienced client using a range of Advanced training methods. Afterwards the candidate will evaluate the session.

Entry Requirements
Learners are required to be 16 years and above to be accepted onto the course.
Experience of gym-based exercise, including free weights, is highly recommended.
The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary.
There is also an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading, and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2.

Certification
On successful completion of these qualifications, the candidate will receive both e-certificates for the Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing and the Level 3 Active IQ Diploma in Personal Training which will allow the candidate to apply for entry onto CIMSPA. These qualifications together will enable you to work as a Personal Trainer.
