Once the candidate completes the application process, they will get access to resources to help them prepare for the course and their assessments.

Resources:

Manual– Candidates will receive a Level 2 Award in Instructing Outdoor Fitness manual when booking and be asked to read through specific sections prior to the delivery of the course. The manual has end of section questions after each section, this helps the candidate check what knowledge they have retained and areas they may need to focus on.

Course work required before the course commences – There are worksheets that are required to be completed before the course starts. Candidates will receive guidance on this when booking.

  • How to manage risks in outdoor fitness training environments
  • The considerations for conducting outdoor training sessions with groups
  • A range of exercises suitable for use in outdoor fitness training environments
  • Planning outdoor fitness training sessions
  • Deliver outdoor fitness training sessions
  • Deliver safe and effective outdoor fitness training sessions
  • Evaluate outdoor fitness training sessions

Assessment

The assessments for this course consist of:  

Worksheet questions – Relating to planning and instructing outdoor fitness sessions

Assignment – Risk assessment and considerations for planning outdoor fitness sessions

Assignment – Information for new outdoor fitness session participants in the form of i.e, devising an information leaflet, poster, web page

Session Plan – The candidate will be required to plan a full 45–60 minute outdoor fitness session for a group of participants.

Practical Assessment:

A practical day will be set so that the candidate can complete their summative assessment. From a planned outdoor session plan that is devised by the candidate on the course, the candidate will induct a client safely and effectively with a range of outdoor exercises. Afterwards they will evaluate the session.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must hold a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym, ETM) or equivalent.

  • There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and candidates should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2.

Certification

On completion candidates will be awarded with an Active IQ Level 2 Award in Outdoor Fitness e-certificate. Active IQ are no longer offering hard copy certificates.
