Home Study
Once the candidate completes the application process, they will get access to resources to help them prepare for the course and their assessments.
Resources:
Manual– Candidates will receive a Level 2 Award in Instructing Circuit Sessions manual when booking and be asked to read through specific sections prior to the delivery of the course. The manual has end of section questions after each section, this helps the candidate check what knowledge they have retained and areas they may need to focus on.
Course work required before the course commences – There are worksheets that are required to be completed before the course starts. Candidates will receive guidance on this when booking.
In Person Delivery
The course tutor will cover the following aspects on the course:
- The legal and professional requirements for group circuit sessions
- The skills, motivations and behaviours needed when delivering to groups
- The principles of training for circuit training sessions
- How technology can be used in circuit training sessions
- The safety considerations when instructing a circuit training session
- How to clean and maintain portable equipment
- Planning a safe and effective group circuit training session
- Preparing clients for a circuit training session
Assessment
The assessments for this course consist of:
Worksheet questions – Relating to planning and instructing circuit sessions
Session Plan – The candidate will need to plan a full 45–60-minute circuit session for a group of between 5 and 20 participants.
Practical Assessment:
A practical day will be set so that the candidate can complete their summative assessment. From a planned circuit session plan that is devised by the candidate on the course, the candidate will induct a client safely and effectively with a range of exercises. Afterwards they will evaluate the session.
Entry Requirements
Candidates must hold a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym, ETM) or equivalent.
- There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and candidates should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2.
Progression Route
This qualification provides progression on to:
- Active IQ Level 2 Award in Instructing Studio Cycling.
- Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Group Training.
- Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training.
Certification
On completion candidates will be awarded with an Active IQ Level 2 Award in Instructing Circuit Sessions e-certificate. Active IQ are no longer offering hard copy certificates.
