Manual – Candidates will receive a Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training manual when booking and be asked to read through specific sections of the manual prior to attending the course. The sections of the manual include:
Applied anatomy, physiology for exercise, health and fitness
The principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health
Lifestyle, health wellbeing and common medical conditions
Encouraging positive health and fitness behaviours in clients
Programme design and delivering for personal training
Professionalism and business acumen for personal trainers
In Person Delivery
This course is delivered over 6 days where the following elements are covered. (This may vary):
Day 1 – Introduction to the course Coursework and consultation assessments discussion Anatomy and Physiology including detail on muscle fibre and neuron anatomy, sliding filament theory, action potentials, planes of motion and the bodily systems. Creating a positive environment (part 1): Introduction to communication
Day 2– Nutrition for exercise, events, and specific goals. How to analyse a clients food diary Creating a positive environment (part 2): Active listening communication techniques, Client Consultation practical (part 1)
Day 3- Risk Stratification Physiological Measurements Fitness Testing Behaviours and habits Nutrition Mock Papers
Day 4- Nutrition Mock Papers: results Cardiovascular and Resistance Methods SMART goal setting, lifestyle barriers and overcoming them Client Consultation practical (part 2)
Day 5 –Programming Periodisation and Alternative Environments Periodisation strategies and how to focus towards client goals Core stability/injuries & Stretching Anatomy and Physiology Mock Paper
Day 6- Anatomy and Physiology Mock Paper: Results Legal Professional requirements, Marketing for a business, Business planning, Client Consultation practical (part 3)

Assessment
Throughout the course candidates will be set Coursework/Projects, worksheets etc and will be marked by their course tutor.
Online Theory Assessments – There are two online theory assessments for this qualification, the assessments are multiple-choice, there are 40 questions for each assessment and the allocated time to complete it is 90 mins. The pass mark is 28/40.
A date is set for each course.

- The principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health
Practical Assessment:
There are a few modular practical observations for the following areas: Consultation, Personal Training session and Training Techniques, these will be assessed within the course delivery days.
A practical day will be set so that the candidate can complete their summative assessment. From a planned programme that is devised by the candidate on the course, the candidate will deliver a Personal Training session to an experienced client using a range of Advanced training methods. Afterwards the candidate will evaluate the session.
Entry Requirement
Learners must hold a suitable level 2 qualification in gym instructing.
The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary.
There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) and maths involved, so learners should have basic skills in communication and maths pitched at level 2 (as a minimum).
Please note if you hold a Level 3 Award in Nutrition for Exercise, and Health qualification, it can only be used towards the Nutrition theory and cannot exempt you from the case study.
Certification
On completion candidates will be awarded with an Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training e-certificate. Active IQ are no longer offering hard copy certificates.
