Home Study
Once the candidate completes the application process, they will get access to resources to help them prepare for the course and their assessments.
Resources:
Manual– Candidates will receive a Level 2 Certificate in Group Training manual when booking and be asked to read through specific sections before the course delivery. The manual has end-of-section questions after each section. This helps the candidate check what knowledge they have retained and areas they may need to focus on.
Mock theory paper- Candidates will complete an e-mock paper to help with revision.
Coursework required before the course commences – There are worksheets that are required to be completed before the course starts. Candidates will receive guidance on this when booking.
In Person Delivery
Candidates will study some of the course through home study and six days of face-to-face delivery. The course content covers:
- Principles of Anatomy, Physiology and Fitness
- Professionalism for Group Training
- Health and Safety in a Group Training Environment
- Supporting Behaviour Change and Healthy Lifestyles
- Planning and Instructing Group Training to music sessions
- Understanding how music and choreography can be incorporated into group sessions

Delivery dates: 5th, 6th, 19th and 20th of October and the 16th and 17th of November 2024.
Online Theory Assessment Date: TBC – this is a flexible date.
Assessment Dates: 23rd and 24th of November 2024.
Assessment
Candidates are assessed throughout the course by questions, assignments, and practical continuous assessment. The final assessments normally take place after the course, and they consist of:
Online Theory paper – The theory assessment is completed Online. The assessment is multiple-choice, with 50 questions, and the allocated time to complete it is 1 hour and 45 mins. The pass mark is 35/50.
A date is set for each course.
- Theory paper title: Principles of anatomy, physiology, and fitness
Practical Assessment:
A practical day will be set so that the candidate can complete their summative assessment. From a planned session plan that is devised by the candidate on the course, the candidate will then deliver a group training session. Afterward, they will evaluate the session.
Entry Requirement
Experience in group training classes is highly recommended.
The course requires physical exertion, and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary.
Progression Routes
This qualification provides progression to the following qualifications:
- Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing – then to Diploma in Personal Training.
Certification
On completion, candidates will be awarded an Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Group Training e-certificate. Active IQ is no longer offering hard-copy certificates.
